Put Your Lights On! - New Moon, Sun & Mars in Scorpio

Leading up to this Scorpio season and the new moon, I’ve been deeply engaged with shadow; shadow in my family line/ancestry, personal shadow, professional shadow and cultural shadow.

“The Scorpio New Moon at 13 degrees on November 4 is a powerful time to transform whatever fears or blocks you may be feeling or sensing. Scorpio gives us the force to go into the depths of ourselves and to see where we are ready to grow next, especially in an area of life or in yourself that has felt dis-empowering or limiting.”
~Molly McCord

“This is a time when we can lose friends and lovers, stir up animosity, and upset the apple cart. However, we may also meet, connect, and even commit to another, a project, a business, or a life path of transformation that brings us greater power, truth, and understanding.”
~Kaypacha, New Paradigm Astrology

“Everyone has a shadow, no matter how good they are. It is in the willingness to encounter these often shameful parts of ourselves and to embrace them with love and understanding that we crack our emotional code and avail ourselves of more energy.”

Leading up to this Scorpio season and the new moon, I’ve been deeply engaged with shadow; shadow in my family line/ancestry, personal shadow, professional shadow and cultural shadow.

Recently I’ve been able to see from a new perspective, how the dark unconscious patterns mired in both my maternal and paternal ancestral lines have been playing out in drama triangles and unhealthy relationship patterns; things I came here (and chose those parents through which) to learn. This willingness to look inside in order to find the chains that have bound me and free myself, even if for a moment, from the patterns that sometimes feel as if they have me trapped; this is what the devil card is all about.

I want to run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls that hold me inside
I wanna reach out and touch the flame
Where the streets have no name
~ U2, "Where the Streets Have No Name"

Those things that are so very easy to find outside of ourselves and blame on everyone else, pointing a finger; and yet, if we turn our pointing hand palm side up, we will see 3 fingers pointing back at us, leading us inside to see where those same shadows lurk in our own psyche. Why else would they bother us so much on the outside?

And it is the tower moments in life that can help free us from these pattern prisons. When the lightening hits the tower, our higher self, in co-creation with the high holy is moving heaven and earth to assist us in letting go, opening up our hands, loosening the death grip of control our personality and our ego have been maintaining in order to keep the status quo. Because even if it wasn’t working that well, it’s still all we ever knew, and who knows, or wants to take the risk to find out, what’s on the other side?

“Mars in Scorpio, or the Tower’s lightening striking Death, can be a period of significant internal transformation. And change that was taking place slowly might start picking up speed.”

We are about to find out what is on the other side. This continuous collective tower experience of the Covid pandemic that never seems to end is shaking our outdated cultural and societal structures to their core, and I have a feeling that things haven’t finished shaking out yet. As we are forced to loose our hold and let the old crumbling structures fall away, our hands are opened and ready to receive. And rather than attempt to control or influence the outer world, I have, for a long time, accepted the “as above, so below/as within, as without” metaphor of life and taken up my inner work as a way to effect the outer world.

This is Scorpio season and at the new moon, when both the sun and the moon are in the sign of Scorpio together with Mars this month, we are able to go really deep and do some very powerful work. And currently Uranus is retrograde directly across the zodiac in Taurus, urging us to go even further and deeper and more extravagantly with our transformation; to really bring it down into the material realm. For me these deaths/rebirths are being experienced on many realms. And the resurrections of the life lessons intended to break me open into the life I came here to live with this incarnation, that were temporarily lost and mired in the material of the ancestral DNA I utilized to get here are rising up, like the phoenix from the ashes of the death card and from the waters of creation of the aeon judgment card.

“Uranus Retrograde wants us to get real. It's time to face our fears and change the things that aren't working so we can become who we really want to be…Break up, make up, change jobs, move or do whatever you need to do to shake it up and move on to something better…get real about what you want, be brave, and embrace your freedom to go after it -- it's the way to happiness.”

In my romantic life, that relationship I was releasing with last months article, which seemed to pull me back in me as I was saying goodbye, finally came to its completion and I was able to close the door with a feeling of lightness in my heart and appreciation for lessons learned and gifts given. (And yes, some sadness for the ending itself) I was able to see, from a new perspective, how my own need to please and penchant for fantasy, had re-created a pattern I am ready to let go of.  I started to ask for what I really need and want, and it became clear to him and to me that he was not in a place to provide those things.

“The Moon in Scorpio, or High Priestess in Death’s clothing, suggests a time when feelings run deep. The ability to end relationships that don’t work, or release stagnant emotions...If there’s a situation in your life that’s nearing its completion, especially if it’s emotional or relationship-oriented, this might be a good time to let it go.”

I finally understand how important it is to let a man show who he is, prove himself; because who he is needs to be compatible with who I am, despite his potential! I am happy in my life, and want to increase that happiness with a romantic relationship, not create or instigate a drama triangle from past wounds. Easy to say, and powerful work to do! With every lesson I re-member a little more, looking up to and wishing upon my star, re-committing myself to this journey of love that begins with me.

“Transformation happens in the muck, or the deepest part of the ocean, or in the times in our lives when things seem the darkest… This might not be where we’d expect to find the Sun, but he likes to go everywhere, and is more than happy to keep the light on as night falls…The Sun in Scorpio, or the Sun dressed in Death’s clothing, is a period that highlights change, quite literally lighting it up…Dig on into the muck and don’t be afraid to get dirty. Play around even, the dark can be as fun as the light.”

At work, I was finally able to bring light to another deeply rooted unconscious shadow by transforming my curse for a colleague to reap what she sows, into a prayer for intervention on her behalf, then intervention on both our behalves and finally intervention on my own behalf. I went from swearing and feeling vengeful to feeling great relief and gratitude for the capacity to forgive. When I asked for intervention on her behalf I actually felt tangible physical relief in my own heart. I felt myself as an instrument of peace. I have read the poem of St. Francis of Assisi so many times before, but only experienced it in my blood and bones just now. Even if only for a moment, it is my hope that if I’ve touched it once I ‘ll have the opportunity to do so again and continue to cultivate it until it becomes habit.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
~St. Francis of Assisi

So, dear hearts, how are you and your unconscious faring during this time of Scorpio and Covid? Are you willing and able to take the hand and heart of your darkness and love it into the light? To me it feels like to only way out of this great big mess we are in; to love more, to shine more, before we eventually fade away like the stars we are. Hopefully we have brought a little more light here and made the world a better place with our presence.

"Hey now, all you sinners…
Hey now, all you lovers…
Hey now, all you killers
Put your lights on, put your lights on
Hey now, all you children
Leave your lights on, you better leave your lights on

Cause there's a monster living under my bed
Whispering in my ear
There's an angel, with a hand on my head

She say's I got nothing to fear
There's a darkness living deep in my soul
It’s still got a purpose to serve
So let your light shine, deep into my hole
God, don't let me lose my nerve…

We all shine like stars
Then we fade away"
