Aquarius Full Moon: A Time of Vision and Transformation

For this full moon, we will meditate on the symbolism and specific guidance of the tarot for an understanding of the energetics of ending old patterns and limited beliefs around power, money and abundance.

As the full moon rises on August 19, 2024, we find ourselves under the illuminating gaze of the Aquarius moon—an energy that beckons us to look beyond the familiar, to envision a world not as it is, but as it could be. This full moon, often called the Sturgeon Moon, carries a potent mix of symbolism and cosmic influence, urging us to align with the broader currents of change and evolution.

Aquarius, the sign of the water bearer, is not a traditionalist. It’s the innovator, the rebel, the humanitarian who sees the interconnectedness of all life. This full moon is a call to awaken to our higher purpose, to understand that we are each a vital part of a much larger tapestry. Under the light of the Aquarius full moon, we are invited to shed the limitations of outdated thinking and embrace the revolutionary spirit that Aquarius so embodies. It’s a moment to dream big, to challenge the status quo, and to ignite the fires of progress—both personally and collectively.

The Sturgeon Moon, rooted in Native American tradition, reminds us of the abundance that comes from perseverance. Just as the sturgeon, a symbol of resilience, thrives in the deep waters, we too are called to dive deep within ourselves, to find the strength and vision needed to navigate these times of change. This moon asks us to trust in the process, to have faith that even amidst uncertainty, there is growth, there is potential, there is hope.

For this full moon, we will meditate on the symbolism and specific guidance of the tarot for an understanding of the energetics of resilience through the kind of radical change that up-levels all aspects of our lives.

The Sacred Scents: Benefits of Oud, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, and Rose

As you prepare to harness the transformative energy of the Aquarius Full Moon, consider incorporating the sacred scents of essential oils into your ritual. These oils, with their potent properties, can deepen your connection to the spiritual and emotional energies at play.

  • Oud (Aloeswood/Agarwood): Oud, also known as Aloeswood, is revered for its rich, complex aroma that grounds the spirit and enhances meditation. It is known to elevate consciousness and open the mind to deeper insights. The scent of Oud is deeply calming, helping to quiet the mind and allow for a more profound connection to the energies of the full moon. It’s an ideal choice for those seeking clarity and a heightened sense of spiritual awareness. On a personal note, I’m calling oud, “The Miracle Worker!” Anytime I’ve felt anxious and ungrounded lately, I rubbed the essential oil in the palm of my hands and lighted a stick of this incense. I felt instantaneously relieved, calm and grounded. I literally breathed easier. I can’t recommend this sacred plant ally enough!

  • Frankincense: A timeless ally in spiritual practices, frankincense has been used for centuries in rituals and ceremonies to purify and sanctify spaces. Its warm, resinous scent is known to enhance meditation and prayer, allowing for a deeper connection to the divine. Frankincense is also associated with protection and cleansing, making it perfect for releasing any negative energies or limiting beliefs that may be holding you back during this time of transformation.

  • Ylang Ylang: With its sweet, floral fragrance, ylang ylang is a powerful oil for balancing emotions and soothing the heart. It helps to release feelings of stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of peace and harmony. Ylang Ylang is also known for its ability to open the heart chakra, making it easier to connect with others and cultivate compassion and understanding—qualities that align beautifully with the humanitarian spirit of Aquarius.

  • Rose: Rose oil, often called the queen of essential oils, is a symbol of love and purity. Its uplifting scent is known to open the heart to unconditional love and to enhance feelings of joy and contentment. Rose oil is also associated with healing and emotional release, making it a perfect companion for those seeking to let go of past hurts and open themselves up to new possibilities.

Incorporating these divine fragrances in the form of essential oils, incense and candles into your full moon ritual can amplify your intentions and create a sacred space where transformation and healing can occur. Whether diffused in the air, added to a bath, or used in anointing, these oils can help you align with the powerful energies of the Aquarius Sturgeon Moon, guiding you towards a more enlightened and harmonious path.

A Sacred Bathing Ritual for Grounding, Safety, and Empowerment

As you prepare to immerse yourself in this sacred bathing ritual, take a moment to first meditate with one or more of the tarot cards connected with this full moon. This is a time to connect deeply with your body and spirit, to ground yourself in the present moment, and to cultivate a sense of safety and power within.

Step 1: Create Your Sacred Space

Begin by preparing your bathroom as a sacred temple. Light a candle to represent the light within you, and set the mood with soft, calming music. Light incense of one of the sacred scents listed above, allowing its purifying aroma to cleanse and sanctify the space. As the scent fills the air, take a few deep breaths, inhaling peace and exhaling tension. Visualize any negative energy dissipating, leaving you surrounded by a protective aura of light. Aquarius is an air sign and incense will immediately bring you into the presence of this changeable and flowing element.

Step 2: Draw Your Bath

As you draw your bath, add a generous handful of sea salt to the water, infusing it with cleansing power. Next, blend together 5 drops of Oud (Aloeswood), 3 drops of ylang ylang, and 2 drops of rose essential oil into a carrier oil, such as jojoba or sweet almond. As you pour this sacred blend into the bath, imagine the water transforming into a pool of grounding energy, ready to envelop and support you. Swish the water around to mix the essential oil blend well.

Step 3: Immerse and Release

Step into the bath, allowing the warm, fragrant water to embrace you. Close your eyes and sink beneath the surface, feeling the weight of the world slip away. As you soak, let the grounding scent of Oud anchor you to the earth, the sweetness of ylang ylang soothe your heart, and the delicate aroma of rose open you to love and self-compassion. Take this time to release any fears or doubts, knowing that you are safe and supported.

Step 4: Affirm Your Power

As you prepare to leave the bath, take a few moments to affirm your intentions. Speak aloud or silently to yourself: “I am grounded, I am safe, I am powerful.” Feel these words resonate within you, anchoring you in your truth. As you rise from the water, imagine yourself stepping into a new reality—one where you are fully in your power, ready to face the world with grace and strength.

Dry off gently, wrapping yourself in a soft towel as you transition from the sacred waters to the outside world. Carry the energy of this ritual with you, knowing that you are grounded, safe, and empowered to walk your path with confidence.

If you’ve experienced what I have this year, I know I’m not the only one who has been deeply transformed through both challenging and rewarding circumstances. It feels like the wide spectrum of our experiences needs this time and space to be fully integrated and acknowledged.

As the Aquarius full moon illuminates the night sky, let it also illuminate the path forward. This is a time to gather with like-minded souls, to share our visions for the future, and to take those first courageous steps towards building a world that reflects our highest ideals. The energy is ripe for breakthroughs—are you ready to embrace the change?
