I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?
~John Lennon
Somewhere on the path we are the toddler. We approach the bridge of life, each step an enthusiastic yet uncertain exploration of the unfolding journey. The small hand reaches up wanting to connect with something to steady and guide the curious and courageous spirit within. It is a trusting, knowing gesture. In this motion, a continuous movement that precedes us in every moment there is enormous faith. Faith, not based upon any thing specific as a little child has not yet formed a belief structure to support much beyond their tiny world.
This faith is intrinsic to every human being. How to maintain the faith of the child who enthusiastically explores the world in which it finds itself without closing down based on anything that is experienced here—remaining open to the experience; that is our delight here. Being here is our delight. Here we are—wonderful, mysterious, magical, every possible expression of that, our true nature, all that is, ever has been, ever will be. How that expression shows up is not our concern. We have no concerns, only a desire to be here in physical form to see the light that is everywhere and everything without separation. No matter what the experience, we are fulfilling our deepest desire and in so doing give more to the human community than we can imagine.
When we are free to be here, simply being, the gift to our community is immeasurable. The heart of a little child is loving and giving without condition. They show us who we are with out the conditioning; that which we may be afraid to approach lest we lose our selves to the unknown.
Children thrive on the unknown. Adults often, avoid the unknown opting for routines that are familiar and comforting. The structure we adhere to is an integral aspect of life. Without structure, we fear possibilities that may never arise. We do not let go long enough to discover that life continues to unfold with grace and ease without the need to do anything or know anything. Yet we still can know and we still can do. Children imagine that all things are possible without any particular explanation. It just is. When as adults we return to acceptance of what is, we are free to again embrace everything—all of life and all of our experiences. We embrace also everything about our selves--Love our selves. Love of Self is to Love all things. There is not a thought that there is separation; that there is a difference in the essential nature of this or that.
In August we experience Jupiter in Virgo opposite Chiron in Pisces. The planet of faith in the sign of ‘knowing thy self as perfect’ faces the planet of healing in the sign of ‘dissolving into all that is’. Faith in humanities ability to heal the wound of separation that we might know the beauty of creation in all its many expressions; to be open to possibilities that lie beyond the realm of physical experience and intellectual knowing. In the depths of summer when the child is deeply lost in a world of their own wild imaginings we find the source of our freedom. Here, there is no time, no expectation and no thought that I must be responsible for anything. We can set out in our kayak at dawn without entertaining the notion that I must return before sunset. Returning will then inhabit the space, a time in the future that will distract the experience of the moment.
In a sense our hand is perpetually reaching for a railing that seems just out of reach and on some level we are always propelled by the faith with which we enter this world that guides us with every step we take. Often we are too distracted to notice what is really going on. The child is at play and dancing wildly to the rhythm of the unknown. In August our faith arises from the midst of ‘chaos’, we Love our neighbor as our Self and see adversity as the path to acceptance and greater Love. We all share the same wound which we continually pick at. Marshall Rosenberg, the author of nonviolent communication based his work upon seeing the needs of those in conflict and finding ways to meet those needs. Everyone in conflict he believed has an unmet need. These unmet needs arise from the collective wound that we express differently based upon many factors.
All violence is the result of people tricking themselves into believing that their pain derives from other people and that consequently those people deserve to be punished.
~Marshall B Rosenber,Nonviolent Communication
As the wound heals we gain greater clarity and compassion for each other. The attitude shifts from what I need to what we need. Love is always the answer.
The Fool 0, the first of the major arcana cards, was discussed in September of last year. The image this time is from the Hanson-Roberts deck, the first deck I used when discovering tarot many years ago. The illustrations in this deck have a child-like nature to them that is sweet, hopeful and charming. Even the cards of warning seem less threatening. As an initial deck this certainly guides one toward positive interpretation.
The Fool, is imbued with youthful enthusiasm for the journey. Where the road leads is of less importance than the attitude with which one approaches the path. The Fool is quite oblivious to external influence; is free to go with the flow and enjoy the ride. He has faith in life and is ready to explore all that lies ahead.
The Star XVII, represents the gifts we receive in physical reality based upon our faith in our selves as spirit. The main image is a youthful woman with the waters of source running through her fingers, she gazes up at a sky radiant with star light. Awakening has occurred.
The third card is also a major arcana card. It is in the realm of universal archetype, these first 22 cards of the tarot deck where we meet the higher self in its glory and limitless potential. The Sun XIX is the child astride a white horse, delighted with the freedom he experiences to be that which he is—naked joy, enthusiasm and faith in come what may. In his perfection he shares his warmth and light with everyone and everything. This amplifies the joy and Love prevails.
In the last days of summer, immersed as we may be in the dream, our intention is that when we are roused from this dream that in awakening we never slumber again. The child takes a tiny step but none the less strides mightily onward.
