February~Patience, Lack of Control and the Metaphorical Whale

I had almost no patience in my younger years. During the past decade, I learned to be still; to gain knowledge through experiences and thus acquire patience. All in all, it seemed to me that I had reached a level of patience comparable with my different spiritual practices: reflection, meditation and reaching a point of inner stillness while contemplating the meaning and perceptions of obstacles. Then I found out that I must be ready for lots of spiritual growth in 2012!

Not only was I given numerous, heavily weighted challenges every single day in this new year, my patience is being worked and stretched like a rubber band that is about to tear at any given moment. Of course, initial frustration set in along with thoughts doubting my own decisions. After all, one would wish for everything to flow easily; and truly, they would have, had I let them. Once again, when I reached the point of inner stillness, I realized that patience was secondary...a byproduct of this feeling of being out of control when I was so sure that everything was perfectly aligned, just the way I wanted it to be.

The real lesson I came to understand is about letting go of wanting to be in control. In the movie, Finding Nemo, the character Dory gives us a great example. The scene in which she and Nemo's father are trapped inside a whale and Dory tells him to simply let go, and trust. Have faith, without really knowing the outcome. It is time for me to do just that and I received the message loud and clear!

How about you? I would love to hear about your metaphorical whale/your obstacles that will/are manifesting themselves over and over again until your lesson is learned just like I had to learn mine. Share with me at Paradise Found, Fridays 1:15-5pm and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10:30am-12:30 pm.

With much gratitude!
