Every journey begins with a single step, and often it requires an actual leap of faith.
The Fool (0) the first, or perhaps the last, card of the 22 major arcana cards, reminds us that no matter how much we have learned and evolved, there are times when we must still return to the beginning, to our innocence and leap towards our dreams wholeheartedly. This is the wisdom of the fool.
The strength of this card depends on the idea of NOT knowing what is next, and yet leaping anyway. So many times our mind tells us that we must prepare, must figure it out before we can move forward. If the Fool makes it into your reading, it is time to trust your instincts, your gut, your intuition, your heart, and let your mind take the back seat. This leap must be made, whether you KNOW or NOT, where the next step is, whether you can see it or not. It's a leap made on faith.
In the 3rd of the Indiana Jones movies, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” at one point in the grand adventure, Indy comes to a cliff and the 3rd clue: ‘Only in the leap from the lion's head will he prove his worth’ to bring him to the other side of a huge chasm that appears impossible to cross. He uses that hint and stretches one foot out into the abyss and as he leans forward to take the leap, a previously camouflaged bridge appears to catch his step and lead him across to the other side. This is a beautiful example of the action of the fool, the faith it takes to take the leap.
The Fool stands on a cliff with all his worldly goods on his back. So many people are experiencing transformations in work, home, personal life and/or lifestyle that has included the loss of much that they thought was important. What would you keep if everything had to fit on your back?
In my own transformational journey, I had been wanting to make a change, known a change was due, but had been unable to make it myself,so the Tower came in to force my leap. A leap that has lasted a long long time.
During that time I've played so much with the idea of believing everything would work out for me, instead of worrying and holding tight to the idea that I need to control it, make it happen.
I've learned that God/dess, the Universe, Love, All That Is has a way better plan for me than my tiny (albeit brilliant & very useful at appropriate times) little analytical mind could ever come up with.I've stayed so much in the present time and trusting and loving what is unfolding that at this point I actually believe it! I am so excited to find out what's next!
Now, after over 2 years of floating in a nebulous world of uncertainty, learning to trust the wisdom of everything that happens, my current leap of faith has been to land. And I have landed well and beautifully in a new home, in a new town, with new housemates, upon a strongly formed foundation of faith, trust and love.
I feel like the Princess Buttercup, near the end of The Princess Bride, who has leapt out of the window into the waiting arms of Fessig the giant. (I watch The Princess Bride every New Year's Eve to remind me of the powers of love, faith, miracles and leaping. This year it feels exceptionally profound.)
Whether your leap is a new beginning or a conscious leap off of a tired old cycle you're ready to leave behind, go for it!
And do come to see me on January 2nd, here at Paradise Found, when we can leap into the New Year together!
Goethe "Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it.Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now."
