The Tender Pink Moon: A Time For Focusing on Intimacy & Relationships

Balanced and beautiful Libra, the sign ruled by Venus and associated with the Goddess Aphrodite, is hostessing this upcoming full moon. This is the seasonal moment to open heart and mind to love, romance, cooperation and companionship. The days grow longer and we experience peak emotional joy, bliss and ecstasy.

“The moment that you feel, just possibly, you are walking down the street naked, exposing too much of your heart and your mind, and what exists on the inside, showing too much of yourself…That is the moment, you might be starting to get it right.”
~Neil Gaiman

Balanced and beautiful Libra, the sign ruled by Venus and associated with the Goddess Aphrodite, is hostessing this upcoming full moon. The sign of Libra is the realm of intimate partnerships, marriages and legal contracts.

This first full moon of the spring season, known as The Pink Moon, will reach peak illumination on Wednesday Apr 5, 2023 at 9:34 p.m. PT.

The etymology of April goes back to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and procreation. Known as Apru to the Etruscans, she was adopted by Romans who also celebrated her in April. In the Roman calendar, the month April is spelled Aprilis, meaning "to open"–this opening refers to the new buds of flowers beginning to open.

The term “Pink Moon” has nothing to do with the color of the moon, rather it refers to a particular pink wildflower that blooms at this time called Pink Phlox.

This is the seasonal moment to open heart and mind to love, romance, cooperation and companionship. The days grow longer and we experience peak emotional joy, bliss and ecstasy.

Remember: the heart is its own archetypal universe.

I love that the Sufi and romantic, western mythologies recognize that the heart is made of the fire element. The burning passion that warms our bodies and leads us towards communion with Divine Love.

I love that in eastern philosophies like Hinduism the heart is the seat of Prana, the life force. The air element. Freedom. Movement. Change. Lightness.

We have both notions to nourish us in different ways. Both are necessary to experience unconditional love on the physical, Earth plane.

The Fire Heart asks us to be the Phoenix: burn down the old, stale and stagnant and anything that does not serve Divine Love. The ashes of our old bodies fertilize the birth of the new being.

The fire seeks love through union and Eros, the glue of two bodies in ecstatic union that purifies the Soul.

It is immanence.

The Air Heart asks us to be the River: it flows and dances, shifts and moves. It is formless and changeless so there is no need to burn anything to the ground. It is pure light and spirit.

It is transcendence.

The reality is finding a way to honor both aspects of the heart and of love.

On the day of the full moon the Sun and Chiron, which represents the wounded healer archetype, will be conjunct and close to Jupiter in Aries, directly across the sky from Libra. The wounds we’ve received in love may be extra exposed at this lunation. We are required to grow through raw honesty and deepest compassion for ourselves and the other.

We will have an opportunity to heal and make compromises in love and other intimate relationships. The emphasis will not be self focused, but rather on the other–it’s time to negotiate in relationships, and not fight so hard for our independence or having things “our” way. This is more about “we” - not “me”!

And, this is about striking a balance - a relationship where only one person does all the compromising will never work or flow towards that beautiful river of Love.

Love & luminosity,

Kris
