“Within yourself is a stillness, a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.” ~Hermann Hess
“I think 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.”
Recently, as thoughts seemed to endlessly repeat to me the events going on all around us, I must have wondered, “how to navigate through these troubled waters without being weighed down by the wake.”
In that moment, a clear image arose in my mind. A tall slender figure in white robes and long white beard rowed a simple wooden dugout on a placid river. He moved effortlessly forward. There was no sound nor ripple left by his oar. It felt as though this had been his journey for eternity.
There was instant calm; the result of having recognized inherent truth of Being. It is not the man, the boat or the river that has importance but what they symbolically stand for and that which has been shared and reshared throughout our time. We are not the doer we are the inexpressible infinite and eternal now.
It is stillness that pervades all. Whatever shows up otherwise is a concept. We indulge our selves for as long as we want in the goings on and can be ever grateful for the sights, smells, feelings that accompany our journey all designed to open our hearts and assist us to reach the inevitable goal—deeply grateful to know thy self as spirit in this complicated, drama of human life on this living being we call Earth.
The ‘Great Presence’ is equal in all of us. Through all of eternity guides us equally upon the river of stillness, of peace, of awareness. For many people presence shows up as the wisdom beyond wisdom, this moment in presence. We are that without even realizing it. And perpetually guided on this river in continuous motion/non-motion, motion being a relative concept.
To become aware of the ‘Great Presence’ and then a restful life, grace filled, there is absolutely nothing we need to do as it is inherent, Being. Why do we not recognize this? Why do we continue to struggle? The eons of conditioning weigh heavily upon humanity.
“Chesterton once said, that because they take themselves lightly, angels can fly.”
As we gain ground on the journey we come to realize the weightiness of our chosen lifestyles.
Often it feels cumbersome and we begin to divest our selves of things including emotional issues that have long kept us imprisoned to dissatisfying experiences.
During the current New Moon in Gemini our desire to ‘eject our cargo’ (Robert Wolfe, author of Living Nonduality) may become something we cannot ignore. Gemini, generally speaking travels lightly. They move about quickly and easily. Extra weight hinders their desire to roam freely. Even the usual images assigned to Gemini are winged ones flitting from flower to flower, or experience to experience—butterflies, birds (especially crows going after the bright shiny things).
Gemini’s traditional role is the messenger. Hermes/Mercury ruler of Gemini was the only God who had the ability to travel from the heavens to earth to the underworld. He is depicted with winged sandals and often a winged helmet.
With extraordianry ease of movement in these extraordianry times we are called upon to travel beyond our limited behaviours and bring clearer insight into our current experience. With six planets involved in a small talent trine we cannot help but receive the message and act accordingly remembering that a New Moon asks that we move inward before we act.
The Sun/Moon (Self/Emotional Instinctive self) conjunct Mercury (as described above plus a gift for communication). These in turn trine* Pluto (elimination, transfomation) and also sextile* Saturn/Neptune (responsibility/the undefined). They both also sextile Pluto.
Also we have in this chart a close trine between Mars in Leo and Venus in Aries. The yin/yang, female/male principals in harmonious aspect in active fire signs. We will accomplish without conflict. Lastly Jupiter in later degrees of Gemini keeping conversations honest, positive and elevated. The expansive nature of Jupiter at this time is an outward and returning energy that touches all things. This is an evolutionary aspect that increases the speed with which change occurs here.
We are the endless, stillness, emptiness. We go nowhere and we are everywhere. We are precious human beings with the ability to find our self in all beings every time we reach out and into another whether that be tree, or sunset or crow or family member, friend or stranger.
We are this and so much more.
“...to attain the highest wisdom we must be still and calm...there are those who say that we must move on as life moves...both points of view, however, are true, for to attain that highest wisdom we must at once walk on and remain still.”
*sextiles and trines are considered to be harmonious aspects or 60 degrees and 120 degrees respectively.
p.s.-If interested there is an explanation for the fixed star Hyadum II that will conjunct the Sun/Moon during this New Moon. As the story is told the five sisters of the Hyades lost their brother and wept for his passing. The tears associated with this myth can manifest in so many different ways—emotional release, storms, rain to nourish crops, etc. For a more detailed understanding: Fixed Star Hyadum II – Astrology King
