The timeless in you is aware of life’s timelessness; and knows that yesterday is but today’s memory and tormorrow is today’s dream.
~Kahlil Gibran
In a moment when we become aware of the timeless and unlimited reality that is our nature, without warning, without a thought, the mind is surrendered; we reach through the clouds to the light and love of infinite presence and dance. Dancing is the freedom to be in this moment all and nothing, the obvious and the mystery. Together then, we furnish our home with possibility and move in ever widening circles of Love.
Pollyanna, written in 1913 by Eleanor H. Porter, is a children’s literary classic. The heroine Pollyanna, sees the positive side of everything.
pollyanna: a person characterized by irrepressible optimism and a tendency to find good in everything
July celebrates the long, hot days where even in the midst of a busy schedule we can feel the euphoric sense of childhood freedom. Memories of those days from youth are triggered year after year as we feel an extra measure of optimism instilled by timelessness and a forever to accomplish all of our dreams. The Pollyanna days of summer unfold into the glorious feeling that there are no limitations and all things are possible. In the heart of the summer the Self finds itself awed by the rosy dawn, vermillion sunset, heat waves rising from hot pavement, children laughing with wild abandon and everywhere the glow of grace that radiates compassion and kindness; even tenderness toward one another when twilight creates shadows within which I recognize places of suffering, common to all of us. Love for all of us and the desire to show up here doing our best no matter what that looks like. We all do our best.
The great advantage of summer is feeling the call to play. Even as the sun rises and birds announce their plans for the day, the enthusiasm for what is to be lifts our spirits and our heads to each new day. What is it about those days that so captivate us and for which we yearn? Is it the absence of responsibility or having to show up in any particular way that allows us to breathe deeply, smell the roses and experience the day as it unfolds without an agenda? Living a life of simplicity provides more ‘time’ for taking a deep breathe and playing.
Playing is a restorative, freeing, creative process that assists us in disengaging from the matrix, the matrix being the structure of rules and regulations and social conditioning that inform many of us. Play can be highly imaginative allowing for spontaneous and intuitive activity. Play is an intrinsic human expression.
Of all animal species, humans are the biggest players of all. We are built to play and built through play. When we play, we are engaged in the purest expression of our humanity, the truest expression of our individuality. Is it any wonder that often the times we feel most alive, those that make up our best memories, are moments of play?
