TEMPERANCE ~ We ARE the Change We Want to See in the World

Until you make the unconscious conscious,it will direct your life and you will call it fate.

~C.G. Jung

Gotta open upMoons have been rising and fallingGo insideHave no fearI heard it close like a whisperAnd now I got it in my bones dearOh my LordOh my GodHave you been standing there all alongEyes are filled with waterFilled with water falling downDemons now running out of town

~Trevor Hall, from Mama and Papa (on KALA)

Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

~C.G. Jung

Oh my, hasn’t it been a humdinger of a new year already! The call of the inauguration of Donald Trump and the response of the world wide, millions-strong, women’s marches of inclusivity, solidarity, bridges and tolerance. Elizabeth Gilbert put it so beautifully in her Facebook post, The Divine Feminine is Rising ~ Elizabeth Gilbert (LINKED), and I feel strongly there is one more step to take to truly transforming and healing this situation. For as we celebrate the return of the divine feminine, the strength and power of women rising up and saying NO MORE, and we celebrate the softening and integrating of the damaged masculine healing & becoming a strong divine counterpart and support for this transformation, we need to take responsibility for both of those aspects WITHIN ourselves. While it’s important to point out what's going on outside and to say clearly this is enough, it is equally important to look for those same aspects, injuries and imbalances inside ourselves and put to use that self discovery of shame and judgement with in our own psyche. When we point outward, we must also acknowledge and take full responsibility for those 3 fingers pointing back at us in order to truly heal what we create (together on the level of the mass consciousness & unconsciousness), project, reflect & so often reject.

Whatever is rejected from the self, appears in the world as an event.

~C.G. Jung

If Carl Jung is correct, then Donald Trump is actually a creation of the hidden and shamed aspects of all of those things he epitomizes that are inside each of us as a collective whole!!! And the most helpful & proactive thing we can do for the world right now is to heal the inner DT in ourselves! Talk about YUCK! Who wants to look at that hidden hot mess inside ourselves? It's so much easier to point the finger at him.

There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.

~C.G. Jung

As women, as we take our own internal damaged masculine (animus) in hand (& heart) we bring it into healing relationship with our emerging divine feminine. For it here that this healing will also be reflected in the outside world, not to mention actually bring peace into our own hearts. As men, we honor the emerging divine feminine (anima) within ourselves and bring the strength of vulnerability and emotional intelligence forward to heal our damaged masculine aspects. We are not only male and female, divine masculine and divine feminine, we are also products of our culture and the mass destruction and dysfunction we see in the world outside is also deeply imbedded in our psyches & selves. We are also linked, genetically to all those ancestors who have played these roles over and over again throughout history and those memories are in our dna. If we’ve experienced abuse the trauma has likely anchored in those ancestral wounds and given them a firmer reality in our present perspective. So, dear ones, have courage and take a look: Where in our lives are we now or have we (or any of our ancestors) ever been any and all of those aspects we abhor about Donald Trump (or any other person or thing that we have trouble stomaching)?Where are we digging up sacred burial sites within our own psyche in order to lay poison down under the deep emotions for the sake of profit and greed? Where have we grabbed ourselves with disrespect, or engaged in “locker room talk” to feel a distorted sense of prowess? Where have we restricted our own freedom of choice for the sake of our imagined power? Where within ourselves have we built walls instead of bridges? What and who have we killed in our own psyches in order to become “king”?Because, despite all appearances, this is also an INSIDE JOB; we all have some hint or variation of some these aspects, whether we cop to them or not. And the more vehement and enraged we are about what is going on outside of ourselves, the more vigorously and honestly we need to look inside and dig out those same aspects of ourselves and our family history. Only then can we re-member, accept, forgive, love and transform them until we simply ARE who we want to BE.Why I’m Happy Trump Won ~ Prince EA (LINKED)This is the gift of the Temperance card; reminding us to see the external world for the mirror it is, the opportunity to clean up and integrate what is being projected, reflected, and rejected, from within us. The reminder to look for those same themes in our own psyche, in our wounds sustained from being either a victim or a perpetrator from past & present and heal them in order to shift what’s happening in the world, now.The Angel of Temperance is the alchemical angel of healing. She stands on the rocky shore, actively integrating two worlds with one foot in the water (Unconscious/dark/emotional realm) and one foot on land (Conscious/light/physical realm), while pouring alchemical waters from a white chalice into a black chalice, with the liquids flowing back and forth between the two. The flow of light and dark are represented in the chalices, in the colors she wears, and in the symbol of the Taoist Yin-Yang symbol (LINKED)l integrated into the dance of light & dark in the sky behind her. A visual variation upon variation upon variation of the dance of light and dark, conscious and unconscious, physical and emotional worlds and the continuous healing involved in that dance. When this card comes into a reading it is a signal that healing waters are flowing and that alchemical processes are in motion. It reminds us to heed the natural order of things; day becomes night, which again becomes day, and winter and spring likewise. It illustrates for us how in the opposites are actually the redemption and the healing of each other.

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as longas the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.

~C.G. Jung

There are two main ways that we are currently able to access how our unconscious reveals itself to our conscious selves symbolically; through dreams and in art.Through our dreams we are able to receive messages from our unconscious. If we are willing to enter into the conversation with our dreams, simply by writing them down, much healing can take place. Likewise, as we delve into our creative sides, and allow color or form or music or emotion to flow through us into our art, our art becomes a visual, physical, sensory or auditory representation of what wants to be revealed. Even if we have a specific idea when we begin an art project, it eventually evolves into itself, despite our intentions in the beginning; this is a beautiful gift of art.And here is where we come to the art of being our authentic selves, where life itself is lived consciously in the present moment it becomes as art and we heal ourselves, and the world by actively bringing the unconscious into consciousness so that we can be poised and available for whatever is next rather than reacting from past memories, hidden or otherwise. Bringing our light into our darkness and vice versa.

Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.

~C.G. Jung

In order to heal ourselves, and the world around us, we must transform our mind’s automatic tendency to project. To do that, first we must become aware of ourselves and take note when we become triggered in some way; irritated, angered, outraged and are very clear about what needs to happen to those things occurring OUTSIDE of ourselves.

Everything that irritates us about others canlead us to an understanding of ourselves.

~C.G. Jung

As soon as you notice yourself judging something that another person is doing (and speaking or even just thinking about what they should do instead), immediately LOOK INSIDE and apply whatever you just said/thought regarding anyone/anything else directly to YOURSELF. Find whatever way, personal or ancestral, past present or future, even something you thought you had learned from or healed long ago, and immediately take your own advice. Try it for one day, or even for one hour. And, this is the most difficult part, FORGIVE YOURSELF for everything. For your original “sin”, for forgetting about it, for judging another for revealing in their own action an aspect of what you didn’t want to face in yourself. Recognize, Remember & Forgive over and over and over again until you feel the forgiveness and self love in your bones and “they” don’t bother you any more.

The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.

~C.G. Jung

This is Alchemy, making lead into gold. That which weighs you down, makes you sick, can be transformed into that which enriches you. When we Clean up inside what we see needs cleaning up outside and we become that change we want to see in the world. We have the power to make that choice, to free ourselves from our bonds of shame and guilt and trauma that we may not even be aware of, until the irritations & outrages of the world around us direct us back towards ourselves.Eventually I had to choose to take exquisite care of myself rather than stay angry at those who I felt wronged me by neglecting me or not holding up their side of an agreement. I’ve had to realize that the only person not taking care of me was, well, ME. As soon as I took responsibility for myself, I ceased to judge others so harshly either for not taking care of themselves or for “letting me down” in some way. As I have become dedicated to taking good care of myself I have made better choices about whom I go into agreements with. I’m better boundaried and so I’m happier and able to be of healthy and sustainable service. Eeesh, that only took 46 years!

I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.

~C.G. Jung

We truly ARE the change we want to see in the world. Its an inside & and outside job. What we judge and hate outside points us to what we need to find inside ourselves to heal and to LOVE.

Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.

~C.G. Jung
