Whether you wish to believe the recent quantum physics findings on time and the proofs that demonstrate time is malleable, or not, you no doubt value the time you do have, and probably find yourself wishing for more of it.
~The Fabric of the Cosmos and The Hidden Reality,by Brian Greene
The old cliche that “time is money” is not wasted on the busy-ness of our demanding lives and the relationship it has to making our time count in ways that support our physical, mental and emotional needs. We all tend to feel pressed for time; wishing for a longer day; bemoaning when we miss the time; or regretting we didn’t use it wisely. I call this poverty consciousness in relationship to time. If you have these notions floating around in your mind, you are robbing yourself of the time you have and will be less effective at using your time wisely. The energetics of having more time have everything to do with cultivating a different consciousness around this precious asset. Of course, theres are natural limits to the human life span. According to recent research it is unlikely that anyone will live beyond 125, and that “our times" tend to end between the ages of 65 and 95. (Longevity Study)Still, what about having more time within the allotted time of our years? We can indeed whittle away our time, feeling cheated by Mother Nature or we can maximize the allotted time by changing the quality of how we experience the passing of it. Essentially we can slow our time down giving ourselves richer experiences, or we can speed it up so much so that we are actually skipping important aspects of our own development, thus robbing our selves of the value that time can actually bring us.So what are the ways we can actually slow down our time, and have more for ourselves? How can we create a wealth of time and really enjoy it while it is passing, without regretting that time is slipping through our fingers? From an energetic perspective the Real You is The Soul within your body. The Soul that is you is energy with consciousness. This life force is responsible for being the Mover of your body and the Observer of your thoughts and the Experiencer of your emotions. Your body does not move unless the “I am” that is the decision maker tells your body to move. From this level of experience your Real Self is a being of Love, Light and Power, timeless and unbounded. It simply exists without a need for time as the human body experiences it. The other states of awareness and consciousness that do not resonate in this bandwidth of Love, Intelligence and Power, exist for the sake of our Soul’s thirst for new experiences so they need to exist within the human time frame. Your Real Self is not limited by time. This is why (for experienced meditators) when you are meditating and in deep blissfulness, even small windows of time spent in deep meditation can feel very long and intoxicating. When you learn how to live from this space, time becomes your friend and not your foe. Below are some specific ways to shift your relationship to time, so that you are having the experience of having more of it, and you enhance your ability to co-create richer experiences that leave you feeling satiated with your time and not regretting the loss of if.
Let go of the notions that you should or should have done something. “Should-ing”, in my opinion is the largest time buster and takes the mind down several paths of poverty consciousness. Repeating the “I should” or “I should have” messages is also birthed from a seed of self-judgement and carries a vibe of mental violence. If you wish to express an alternate way of behaving, it’s better to say, “next time I will”. Coming from a responsible place instead of a judgmental place creates value in the experience, even though it may not have turned out as planned. This will leave you feeling ahead of your game instead of playing catch-up in the mind.
Letting go of all regrets over the past frees up our time. The letting go aspect has little to do with making events mean less or erasing their meaning in your life. Instead, letting go of regrets makes you more available to finding the gems in those events, which regret will keep you from getting. For example, the passing of my father recently, created a space for me to sit with the pain of not having him in times when I really needed him, and in times where I wished he had not been my father. Even with all the work I had under my “spiritual practice belt” I had no idea that his passing would create a space where I got to understand him in a different way. It really allowed me to see how, in order to get where I am today, all of my life with him was indeed a huge part of my development and created an incredible ability to help others find healing and emotional resolution. I can honestly say now, that I no longer regret any aspect of my being raised by him, because I was placed into a situation (his impending passing; he was put on life-support by the time I got to his bedside) where I did not have the luxury to hold onto any regrets I may have non-consciously been holding onto. If I wanted him to have a peaceful passing and I wanted freedom and resolve, I was put into an opportunity to forgive, and own the value of those times with him, so that our shared Love and Connection could be experienced and realized. I feel I have reclaimed some of my time with him, in fact. This leaves me feeling closer to him than I ever had before, and that bond is not something that time can ever take away.
Live with clear intentions. This is a zinger, because we frequently have so much on our plates that even focusing on one intention for very long is a challenge. Research into how the internet is impacting the human brain, demonstrates it is rewiring our neural network and changing how our brains work. (The Web Shatters Focus and Rewires the Brain by Carr) It may be shortening our attention spans and creating less ability to hold our focus for sustained periods. Decreased ability to focus, easily creates more mind clutter and more mind-clutter will make us feel like we are spinning our wheels and getting no where. This will amount to an experience of wasting our time or losing time. This is one reason why reading books, or having an intentional meditation practice, can strengthen our neural network and actually help us add time onto our perceptual time-clocks and can help us slow down and enjoy our experience with the time we have.
Make sure that your clarity of intention supports your basic core values, otherwise if you are living according to the values of others without regard for your personal core values, you may accomplish much, only to get to a feeling of being unfulfilled, because it was not in alignment with your true values. This also takes contemplation, for few of us are schooled on examining our personal values. We are commonly tutored deeply to accept the values that our religio0socio-cultural-economic surroundings instill in us, without being given the opportunity to explore our own values. This is where an intuitive life coach, or spiritual counselor can come in handy. As well, any number of life transformational books on the shelf at Paradise Found can further you in this regard. I love Paul Selig’s “I Am the Word” or any other of his writings. I also love Andrew Newberg’s, Words Can Change Your Brain. Living with intention is key to feeling rich in your time and in your pocket book.
With these four points you should have no problem gaining more time, enriching the time you have and counting every blessing for every minute you have used and yet to use in co-creating more pleasurable and highly concentrated moments in your day.For details on how to develop a regular meditation practice and help in living a life with clearer intensions and richer experiences, email Lani Reagan at AskLaniNow@gmail.com or attend her once a month workshop at Paradise Found.
