What Is In This Moment by Anna Chapman

Nature is filled with words of love, but how can we listen to them amid constant noise.

~Pope Francis, Guardians of Being

We step into October with an awareness of emotional fragility and sensitivity; with a desire to express the love, kindness and caring that flows from our hearts with silent, steady grace always. What we hear at times is a voice generated by the ego, thoughts based upon the past that deny our true nature in favour of any number of self protective strategies that human beings have created for preservation of something that is impermanent. This is a distraction from the moment witnessed without judgment and contributes to the inability to accept what is right now. As Adyashanti states, in satsang and writings, 'enlightenment is the acceptance of what is in this moment'.

When we are in the moment without any attachment to what this moment is, there is nothing else--not suffering, anxiety, fear or any desire to know what will be. We simply abide. Thoughts may come and go but awareness is, unperturbed by this or that. Sitting in nature without sound or visual interruption, a panorama of hills, sky, and ocean dips, rises, and undulates before me. For an unknown length of time thoughts do not seek to define anything. I am, simply no different than that which is observed. There is not even observation, just being. From this awareness, sharing Truth from the heart that is perceived as love, joy, peace--ultimately freedom--the instant one is in the presence of Truth. Illusion finds no place upon which to perch. Truth is everything and nothing. No more may be added, nothing may be subtracted. There are no coat hooks upon which to hang a coat.

A silence permeates the air in October that begins with Mercury retrograde in Libra. Our voices are stilled long enough that we may hear 'the distant beat of our own drum'. Even for a brief moment we may be fully immersed in a knowing that imbalance, discomfort or suffering is the result of resisting that beat. When we put our ear to the earth and surrender the demands of the ego there is no room for doubt or concern. We rise up lacking connection to the habitual mode of expressing.

Venus/Aphrodite, goddess of love and relationship rules for most of this month. Though our typical description of this goddess contributes to a sense of separation in that the goddess presides over relationship (me and you), we may consider in October the potential for 'seeking' within rather than without. This way in relationship we are free to enjoy another person exactly as they are without projection or expectation. This is the face of Aphrodite/Venus Urania rather than Aphrodite/Venus Pandemos (for all the people) with whom we are more familiar. Aphrodite Urania is the daughter of Uranus, which in astrology is known as the 'awakener'. It is this higher principle of the goddess of love that we are influenced by at this time.

In Tarot, the 6 of Cups best describes the unconditional love that is talked about as the only love as it is not impermanent. The number 6, the star of David equals, as above so below the balance that is when spirit and physical are no longer perceived as separate. The 6 of Cups is giving and receiving equally the essence that flows from the heart.

The final card for October is the 2 of Wands. The young man holds the world in his hand, symbolic of limitless possibility. Here to is knowing it is in my hand. 'It' does not exist at any distance to my self. Whatever I seek is right here, right now.

This October, which follows a powerful Full Moon lunar eclipse, the fourth of such eclipses all visible from North America, stands as a gateway to further opening to the impersonal nature of Reality and how acceptance and abidance with what is answers all the questions that have long been the catalyst for seeking. We rest and relax knowing 'that' is all we need know.
