Tea is an act of voluntary simplicity, a slowing down and a coming awake, as the rest of the world dissolves and there is nothing but you and the tea, in the immediacy of the present moment. As you hold the warm cup in your hands and inhale the scent, you are consciously saying "I am here. I am awake to witness the feel, the aroma, the delicacy and beauty of life."

Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh has a beautiful instruction on drinking tea: “Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves – slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.” He also writes: “Looking deeply into your tea, you see that you are drinking fragrant plants that are the gift of Mother Earth...You know that you are drinking a cloud; you are drinking the rain. The tea contains the whole universe.”
