Full Harvest Moon in Pisces | Monday 9/20 at 4:54 p.m. PT

"The Pisces Full Moon is perhaps one of the more mystical Full Moons of the year. As a water sign, Pisces adds an extra element of intuition, femininity, and transcendence to this Full Moon. It brings out our creativity, our capacity to heal, and our willingness to dive deep into the unknown.

Pisces represents the ocean—vast, boundless, and connected to everything. This energy is the thread that ties the Universe together. It reminds us that we are one with everything. This Full Moon is a time to relax, expand, and let go of control as we all ride the waves into a higher consciousness."

"Pisces reminds you this Full Moon, and always, that when you are in the flow, you do not need to force things. You do not need to control or perfect anything. The more you let go of attachments and expectations, the more you will feel aligned with your life. You do not need to do anything to be in the flow of your life. You just need to release the barriers within you that prevent you from receiving what you need. This release is the work of this Full Moon. It starts when you raise your awareness to accept all experiences and understand the larger vision of your energy.

Over this Full Moon, break free of your distractions and travel to a deeper level of understanding of the world around you. See past the superficial goings-on of the world and start to see the energy that comprises it all. See the pathways of evolution and the patterns that form. Feel your connection to the Universe and know that through this connection you are able to receive everything you need for your soul’s journey. Work to let go of how you expect life to be and start accepting how it is. In this acceptance, see the beauty of your soul shining through the light of the Moon."

"We call it the Harvest Moon because farmers gathering their late crops welcome the light that the Moon provides as night falls. For a few days before and after its fullness, it hangs in the sky like a great glowing lantern, prolonging the light well after sunset."

Harvest Time, Fall Equinox + Mabon

"Autumn mornings: sunshine and crisp air, birds and calmness, year’s end and day’s beginnings."
~Terri Guillemets

Mabon--also known as the Fall Equinox--is a time to honor the spiritual significance of harvest. As the acorns drop onto my roof with surprisingly loud knocking sounds, it reminds me that keeping in tune with the seasons is an important part of being human, and connecting with the Sacred.

Here in Central California, Autumn is marked less by changing leaves and more by lengthening shadows, cool foggy mornings and golden afternoons. When we pay attention to the world around us, we can learn important things about ourselves. That is why it is so healing to spend time in nature, to find beauty in the signs of time passing and regain a grounded perspective on our lives.

“In some Native languages the term for plants translates to “those who take care of us.”
~Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass

Get back in "sync" with the natural cycle of the seasons, by celebrating the Fall Equinox in your own way:

1. Go to the farmer's market and try some seasonal fruits and vegetables--Apples are a traditional Mabon food--They are delicious just as they are, or baked, stewed, and cooked in creative dishes, salty or sweet. You may be inspired to invent a cobbler with your favorite Autumn fruits, or create a stir-fry with a rainbow of colors. Perhaps you might make a ritual of preparing the ingredients, consciously ushering the coziness of Fall into your everyday life...Eating foods that are in-season helps us stay grounded and notice the changes in nature, and to be more fully integrated into the harmonious cycles of the natural world.

2. Get back into journaling--Take stock of where you are (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually), and make a list of what you have recently gathered--inspiring objects, happy memories, new ideas. What did you manifest over the summer? Write about what you are harvesting, on a literal and figurative level. Are there any projects, plans or intentions that have recently borne fruit for you? Allow the words to flow out, releasing any blocked emotions and allowing peace and serenity to flow effortlessly in--just as when you let out a deep breath, the following in-breath naturally fills your lungs.

3. Think about fresh ways to practice gratitude--Maybe this means adorning your altar with symbols of things you're thankful for, or placing photos of family and friends where you'll see them every day. It could be a check-in with your senses, coming into the present moment and giving yourself space to notice and appreciate certain sounds, sights, smells, tastes...Maybe gratitude is a quiet moment carved out in the space between bustle and hurry, a little nook of sanctuary, a deep breath, a smile.
