Full Moon & Partial Lunar Eclipse in Taurus 27°14’ | Friday 11/19 at 12:57am PT

"This year, November’s Beaver Moon is accompanied by a partial lunar eclipse that will be just shy of total—98% of the Moon will be covered by Earth’s shadow at the height of the eclipse! During a lunar eclipse, the Moon, Sun, and Earth stand in a line with the Earth in the middle, causing the planet’s shadow to be cast onto the Moon. This gives the full Moon a reddish, coppery hue, as well as the nickname “Blood Moon.”

This near-total lunar eclipse will be visible from most of North America, beginning around 11:00pm Pacific time on Thursday, 11/18, and reaching its maximum at approximately 1:00am Pacific time on Friday, 11/19. Be sure to convert to your local time zone to find out when to look for the eclipse!

Why the “Beaver” Moon? This is the time of year when beavers begin to take shelter in their lodges, having laid up sufficient stores of food for the long winter ahead. During the time of the fur trade in North America, it was also the season to trap beavers for their thick, winter-ready pelts.

November’s Moon names highlight the actions of animals preparing for winter and the onset of the colder days ahead. Digging (or Scratching) Moon, a Tlingit name, evokes the image of animals foraging for fallen nuts and shoots of green foliage, and of bears digging their winter dens. The Dakota and Lakota term Deer Rutting Moon refers to the time when deer are seeking out mates and the Algonquin Whitefish Moon describes the spawning time for this fish.

In reference to the seasonal change of November, this Moon has been called the Frost Moon by the Cree and Assiniboine peoples and the Freezing Moon by the Anishinaabe—for good reason, as winter is right around the corner!"

"Taurus provides a container for all of the emotions brought up by Scorpio Season. This eclipse is a time to pause, connect with your body, connect with nature, and find stillness within. It’s a time to reflect on everything you’ve learned so far in your journey and be with yourself in this moment. Taurus brings us peaceful vibrations that allow us to process the work we’re doing and the growth we’re experiencing.

If we are always transforming, we are always changing and never appreciating the path we’ve traveled. Pausing, even for a day, also gives us time to process emotions, beliefs, and even events. Taurus's energy is like a familiar friend, a warm hug, and a much-needed laugh. These simple moments and treasures remind us of the joy of being alive. They bring us back to center when life throws us curveballs, and they help stabilize the constant fluctuations of the mind as we encounter, process, and integrate new information.

Allow this eclipse to hold the space you need to appreciate yourself right now and all that you have unraveled since the start of Scorpio Season."

"The first of our two eclipses occurs this week: a partial Lunar Eclipse perfects this Friday when the Taurus Moon opposes the Sun in Scorpio. Eclipses occur in cycles, activating a specific pair of zodiac signs for about two years and then moving on to another pair of signs. With this Friday's event, eclipses start a gradual shift from Gemini/Sagittarius to Taurus/Scorpio, which means we are moving out of a two-year thinking/acting phase and into a new two-year feeling/sensing phase.

With the Taurus/Scorpio axis activated at this Lunar Eclipse, we are specifically working with issues of security and stability, loyalty and trust, finances and possessions, profound change and uncertainty, and deep emotional responses to feeling a lack of control. Our capacity to stay grounded and centered amidst transitional times will be tested. Also significant is that at the time of the eclipse, the Moon aligns with the fixed star Algol (associated with Medusa, one of the Gorgon sisters from Greek mythology, who had snakes for hair and whose gaze turned living creatures to stone).

Here's a paragraph from astrologer Roderick Kidston's book The Magic of the Stars, which describes how to work with Algol: "There are two big challenges with Algol: not to 'lose your head' in the sense of becoming frightened or confused; and doing your best not to freeze with fear, either emotionally or intellectually. Algol raises important themes around managing fear and other primitive responses, and above all, it points to the need for good gut-heart-head integration. You need to cultivate balance and detachment, even what is sometimes glibly called 'self-mastery'...Once you have those challenges sorted, you can be poised...and keep your head while all those around you are losing theirs."

Find Stability and Inner Peace in Taurus Season | Root Chakra Meditation

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine.

Earthy Taurus has a fundamental affinity with the root chakra, which is "your foundation and represents your connection to the earth and our sense of 'groundedness' in life. If the root chakra were in nature, it would be the soil in which the seeds are planted. It's the 'ground floor' of the chakra system and lays the foundation for expansion in your life."(Nicole Rutsch, reiki master and herbalist at NAO Wellness).

Sometimes it seems as if everybody wants to work with the upper chakras, the Crown and the Third Eye and the Throat, but lasting transformation works from the bottom up. Neglecting the lower chakras to focus on the upper ones is like "putting frosting on a moldy brownie," in the no-nonsense words of personal empowerment coach Margaret Raniere.

The root chakra is an energy center in the body located at the base of the spine. It has the color red, and is the chakra of survival, instinct, and safety. When your root chakra is open and energy is flowing freely, you will feel safe, and grounded in your body and your physical environment. You have a deeper sense of knowing that everything will work out in the end.

"It means you are supported in your life choices and decision making, you have developed your instincts, and the combined energy of your mind, body and soul are in alignment. If the root chakra becomes blocked or depleted you may have a hard time feeling safe in the world and might feel constantly at risk of danger. You may attract toxic energy, feel increased stress and anxiety, and be more prone to anger and getting stuck in negative thinking patterns." (Rutsch)

The root chakra can be thought of as the seat of our personal power, but can also be the energetic resting place of insecurities or fears having their roots in the deepest beginnings of our physical and emotional development, the foundation that underpins all future growth. Meditations and visualization exercises that focus on this particular chakra can promote the free flow of energy and general feelings of safety, security, belonging, and restore self-confidence.

The Full Moon in Taurus brings themes of stability, safety and security to the forefront of our attention. That is why we have chosen to share the following root chakra visualization from Cynthia Calhoun, a meditation teacher, artist and poet. With her guidance, you will picture your root chakra as a spinning ball of red light, growing and expanding to radiate throughout your body. This colored light meditation is a great way to focus your awareness, clear energetic blockages and rebalance your root chakra.

Root Chakra Meditation -- Colored Light Visualization

Bring your attention to the root of your being, the base of the spine. A tiny ball of red energy spins there.

See this energy center as a red pin of light.

On your next breath, breathe into this red pin, and allow it to grow into the size of a marble.

With another breath, expand this light so that it envelops your lower body.

The vermillion red light grows to surround your body. Its energy swirls in a circular motion around your body.

This ruby light to surround you for a few more moments.

Now send this red light down to your feet. This light allows you to become rooted. Your feet grow roots into the earth below you, and energy from the earth moves into your body.

Send the red light up your legs, allowing the muscles to relax and the blood to flow freely.

Move up toward your thighs, sending red energy into your hip bones, your thigh bones, your kneecaps, your lower leg bones, and to all the bones in your feet.

This light expands to your lower spine, sending healing red energy through all of your lower body. As you breathe, your blood pumps healing energy to all parts of your body. Your entire body lights up with rich healing energy as the earth sends you more energy.

Allow the red, healing light to move through you, and around you, bathing your body in crimson light.

Allow the crimson light to penetrate your entire being to the core and then begin to allow it to dissipate knowing your root chakra has been activated and balanced. Gently bring your attention back to your breath and open your eyes when ready.
