Letting Go: The Key to Activated Intuition by Lani Reagan

breathe. trust. let go. see what happens.

Living intuitively is a different way of being-ness than most of us were raised with. It’s a practical mix of allowance and action, in right timing. It requires attention in the now, but simultaneous awarenesses of subtleties. I see it as logically letting go, since it usually takes us some degree of noticing that we are holding on too tightly, to allow the intuitive voice to enter.

We can spend too much time in worry and action, burning the night oil or over-everything-ing. Mixing in some grace and ease can carry us much farther along our path than we think. In the letting go comes the voice of intuition. So how do we let go, since conventional conditioning has trained our brains to do, do, do (and then feel guilty for when we are not do, do, doing)? 3 things can help us in this endeavor.

  1. Breathing for de-stress, health and creativity

“Just breathe” might sound overly simplistic, but slow, deep, rhythmic breathing causes the “para-sympathetic” nervous system to balance out and over-ride the “sympathetic” fight-or-flight response, responsible for stress in the body. Pranayama is the yogic science of rhythmic breathing to affect states of consciousness at the mind level and healing at the physical level. A powerful count is inhaling for a count of 6, holding for 3, then exhaling for a count of 6 and holding for 3. That’s one cycle. 5-7 cycles once or twice a day helps us slow down and let go. A great book to check out the science that backs this up is, “The Relaxation Response” by Dr.Herbert Benson.

  1. De-attach from the storyline

It is common to buy into storylines, the mind makes up for the self. These storylines tend to become the basis of the realities we co-create for ourselves…our personal life experiences. Letting go means de-attaching from these, so that other intuitive perceptions can arise within us. So what are your storylines? It’s hard to see what our storylines are, so we have to question ourselves when we find we become too attached to our perceptions on a matter, and notice when we feel closed to other options. When we feel we have no choice and feel stuck, we are usually running some kind of a storyline, because the real truth is that we always have options and there are always choices. Without the willingness to see we are too attached to our inner narratives, opening to the voice of intuition becomes very difficult. Even admitting that we may be operating an old storyline, gives one space to allow intuition to become activated.

  1. Be at ease in the stillness of spaciousness

Letting go can be scary because we think we will have nothing to hold onto. We may feel too scared to let go, because we don’t know what else there is. But holding on and gripping is exhausting, plus what we tend to hold onto, we usually don’t want anyways. Trust that in the space, in the emptiness, is where all possibilities reside. Stress borne of over-attachment blinds us to the numerous possibilities trying to find their way to us. If we slow down and widen our inner vision, giving the mind a break, our bodies can relax into letting go, and letting new perceptions begin to arise within us….this is intuition’s voice at work. The silence can seem scary, but if you stay with it, you’ll get to a space of open-ness and ease. From this space monumental things can become like molehills and solutions pour forth easily. My teacher used to say, when asked for advice, “Go meditate”. I have since more than understood the value of those words as my intuitions has grown and increased through the years. Practice regularly and you will see results.

For those of you who think you are not that intuitive and more logical, use your logic to apply the steps about in developing your intuition and in process of living an Intuitive Life! If you’d like some help with it, attend the Tues, March 15th’s 6:30-8Pm workshop on Intuitive Energy Healing, where we’ll be having group meditation and group energy-work to aid you in your Intuitive explorations.
