There is and can be no special planned technique for discovering and awakening one’s inner self, because the inner self is first of all a spontaneity that is nothing if not free…the inner self is not part of our being, like a motor in a car. It is our entire substantial reality itself, on its highest and most personal and most existential level.
~Thomas Merton,Seeds
When they awoke the dust was settling. The earth was still. The sound of the breath moving brought joy; reminded them of pure innocence, newly born. Joy whirled about in the heart, leaping, gazelles taking flight. The surface, what crossed the face, was yet unrevealed as the sun yet to rise. But one could see light separating heaven from earth as in the beginning, perpetual beginning. Awareness spread slowly with the early morning rays consuming the landscape that lay hidden and waiting beneath darkness. There was nothing unknown and yet everything was not known. They had no name for anything now, were free to experience this day without a single thought. On their faces, smiles of peace.
The past and all its complications were inaccessible; lay beyond reach by any power of the mind to recollect. The mind, indeed, was silent, hushed and resting. Its edges floated in a vast sea of tranquility for the first time perhaps, since having woken into the world of form. The mind none the less pulsed with life; effervesced with potential like a fetus radiating essence. A baby, a child, a youth, an adult, a developing human being—an expression of infinite awareness in a finite world; made finite by the layers of structure that we have erected over millennia that define our selves.
On October 19th, with Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, more of that structure crumbled. Our eyes are being peeled like oranges to have at the delectable treasure within. Clear sight, freedom to Be.
Let us not judge our selves but remain as primordial yeses shooting across the void and coloring the sky with infinite shades of creation as testaments of the Absolute reality, Truth and all of its myriad expressions. Let us embrace our selves with such firmness that eventually there is nothing left to embrace; we merge with knowing our selves. There is nothing in between. And in the no space is life as everything. Compassion flows into and out of, over, under, through. We cannot not be the limitless expression of love that is our nature. We embrace everything.
In each of our hands is elegance, strength, capability and the potential to create whatever should arise from the great pool of consciousness be it a note to be played into a composition, or a word written that becomes a novel, wood turned on a lathe wanting to be a chair, brushed against a lover’s cheek, offered in prayer or to open a door. Our hands are willing tools in the journey to express what we cherish as life. Our hands are one part of this form that holds so much potential for expression; one aspect of that for which we have endless gratitude and appreciation.
November with Neptune conjunct the south node, whence we come, there is an increased urge to merge. We will be divesting our selves of layers even as the weather turns cooler. For some, the emotional component of a deep inner urge to “change” is strong and much less repressible and though this is a highly uncomfortable place to be, first recognizing that change will occur and secondly having to admit that maybe I have been wrong and certainly number three, that resistance is futile! We are arising from the fantasy within the illusion and gaining ‘height’ in order to have a clear view. And what a view it is! We can see forever.
Neptune conjunct the south node is at 9 degrees Pisces which relates in the Sabian symbols to the ‘mastery of the highest realms’—from whence we come—it is a remembering based on, now ‘losing’ those memories that have contributed to the sense of separation. When those memories are not something to which we attach, the knowing of our true nature ‘appears’. When we understand the nature of duality Truth is realized; that is, we wake up to the illusion that we are a separate body/mind into knowing (without knowing) vast Reality.
The Tarot deck represents our journey here from the Fool 0, the beginning and the end, to the World XXI where we have gained access to the big picture and are free, as is the Fool to move forward uninhibited into the unknown. Each major arcana card represents a significant juncture along the road we travel on route to Self discovery. It is a process of understanding what it is to seek individual gratification and how this may be antithetical to our desire for peace and love.
Each of the minor arcana cards represents our daily steps, lessons and awarenesses that assist us in making bigger leaps required from one stage of major arcana to the next. Daily interactions are required to benefit from the reflections of others who each show us a different aspect of what is possible here. We are continually learning and growing.
If we are to assign a card to the month of November, we choose Justice XI that appropriately expresses the nature of November. Here all things come into balance by a natural process of continuing to awaken from the dream. Karma is resolved in this card; that we release our attachment to ideas we have carried for a long time. Justice carries a sword with which to sever us from our illusions and is entirely neutral in this process. Justice, who wears a blindfold is unaffected by karma her self. Her wisdom comes from inner knowing rather than an external source; the light beaming from either hand is an indication of enlightened awareness, a result of increased clarity or diminished illusion.
At the beginning of November, Jupiter planet of expansion and growth is in the sign of Libra, the scales. The Sabian symbol that represents its unfolding into November is: “the need to carry on at ever-deeper levels the quest for knowledge which keeps burning the fires of the collective mind…” In November we plumb the depths urged on by the desire to know Self. We continue to ask of ourselves a bit more perhaps than we are comfortably able to ‘give’ and yet persist, knowing that the gift we offer to society as a result is invaluable—the heart, the whole heart and nothing but the heart!
This is the month of giving thanks and may we give thanks for our willingness to be of service for the highest good and all those who so graciously support us along the way.
