October opens with a good measure of civility, sweet composure (Jupiter, Sun and Moon in Libra) and romantic idealism (Venus trine Neptune in water). We will glide into this month with the ease and grace of the goddess of love, beauty, sex, fertility, prosperity, and desire. There will be charm to spare and this is fortunate. As the month reaches mid-stride Mars approaches Pluto (in Capricorn). The tide will turn. Quiescence is replaced with upheaval. The god of war conspires with the god of the underworld to shake the foundations of ‘reality’ that proves to be limiting.
In his book The Path of Least Resistance, Robert Fritz uses the example of a riverbed littered with big rocks to describe the underlying structure that creates a ‘path of least resistance’ that is circuitous, requires more energy and has a less direct path to source.
Remove the boulders and the river runs true, rushing forward with great strength toward the desired ‘goal’. The path of least resistance is clear. There is no compromise required.
We compromise with our selves frequently when we take into consideration the numerous thoughts that ‘suggest’ to us the best way to accomplish what these thoughts dictate. If these thoughts are based upon what other people contribute to our library of knowing then our path of least resistance is cluttered with debris. Generally we bend to pick up this debris when ever a situation arises that confronts our sense of righteousness.
On the path of least resistance…do not pick up what lies to either side of what would otherwise be a clear roadway. As tempting as it may be to retrieve this or that along the path, leave the old patterns to the dictates of time that will render them obsolete. We can re-educate our selves to enjoy the journey, to revel in the freedom of the way without drama and to share with others the joy of pure existence without judgment.
On October 19th there is potential for earth shaking events that affect the planet and the communication systems that inform us of truth exposing our limitations and propelling us forward upon a clearer path of least resistance. Reams of debris that litter the human landscape disappear into the folds of time. There is little rubble with which to contend as this process unfolds. There is only the clear knowing of the great benefit of unified awareness that serves all.
As the month draws to a close Venus pairs with Saturn in Sagittarius to adjust the old man’s sense of tough love. Venus in Sagittarius is jovial and fun loving, optimistic and adventurous. There is no time to linger in regret. Move forward with a positive energy that knows all things are possible! Here there is clarity of purpose and a focus on that which serves Truth that will provide the groundwork for a positive outcome to the months of travail that have preceded October. And just in time! Let not doubt discourage us from singing out loud what our desires are for justice and well being to benefit all.
Idealism will be tempered with the profound reality and awareness of what truly serves the greater good. Individually motivated campaigns will wither in the strong light and cease to drive the train.
If we turn to the Tarot cards to define this moment we will consider the Two of Wands as a card that highlights great potential for every kind of positive venture. We hold the world in our hands and everything is possible. Our view out over the ocean is crystal clear spawning inspiring ideas and new growth.

The Tower XVI describes the Mars/Pluto affect—structures being struck by lightning; old patterns being interrupted in a way that is initially unsettling. We quickly and calmly survey the damage then leap into a space that is free of complications ready to embrace a more loving moment.
Again we call upon the Six of Cups to illustrate that which lies as a constant within every heart, unconditional love—sharing and caring that is the result of an ongoing ‘love affair’ with the beloved, Self, God, the Absolute. Six o
f Cups is the Venus affect; Venus at her best, giving from the bounty of goodness that is the source of her origin—the great sea of Reality.
October is a beautiful month that moves us gradually into cooler days and nights but has the reputation for extending summer with warmth that is a pleasant surprise. Let us be enticed by the mystery of what each day may offer and attuned to the picture that is harmony and peace and a generous sharing of the light that is within each of us. Even as we know that winter approaches and the going within begins, we need not withdraw our light when the days shorten but give with greater enthusiasm from the heart that beats consistently from the one source.
These are exciting times! We have the opportunity to share and give from the bottomless pool, from the abundant wealth of goodness that ultimately serves this planet unfailingly. Hand to hand, eye to eye, one to another we find our self in everything we experience; the magnificent essence of being is tireless, unending, unconditional, always the expression of Truth. The beloved dwells within and there I am, lost in the eternal promise of sublime peace. Gracefully I meander through the garden of ‘earthly delight’ with the awareness to touch every flower and sail along with the clouds.
