April~Have Your Pie & Eat It Too by Maggie Gressierer

Do you feel a bit off balance? Chasing after every appointment? And once there is time to relax, you feel so depleted that you don’t care to do anything at all?

Make Time for Yourself

Well there are only 24 hours in a day and so much to do, yes? I agree. But I also know that we all only have 24 hours and some of us are always running behind, are stressed and/or never feel they get it all done. At the same time, others seem so joyful doing what it is that needs doing, and then find time to enjoy themselves in their free time.

How is that possible? What are they doing to achieve this? I am often asked what I do to be so happy when I work & maintain a busy schedule.

The answer is:

1. A positive outlook. I fill my life with people and activities with which I like to be surrounded and I know how to have a good time when it is time to put work aside, finding great pleasure in nature, art, interactions, hobbies etc.

2. My yummy pie chart.

So what is the yummy pie chart you ask?

Make Time for Yourself

Everyone of your days represents a yummy pie, each day another pie. How much of the pie do you dedicate to your work, to your family, friends, hobbies, volunteer work, errands, furthering your education, coming closer to your life goals and anything else you want to put on that list? Draw a circle representing the pie and fill it in with hour wedges until the full 24 hours are complete.

Notice how this dictates your day. What is left out completely or what is encompassing too much time? Draw a pie chart for every day of the week and fill it in accordingly. Discover what changes would be beneficial for you.

Pay attention to what days you feel better than others. Is there more of a balance between work and play, or do you feel your pie is mostly work? If that is the case and at current you have no other option than to continue drawing the income until your financials change, take each day as an exciting adventure and see the challenges you are faced with as opportunities.

Make Time for Yourself

Come to work thinking: today, I am going to have fun! Life is a bit like playing a game and the better you are at embracing challenges and turning them into opportunities the easier and more fun the ride will be. Create new opportunities to fill your time; for yourself and for others.
