“This is the real secret of life--to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” ~Alan Watts
Oh, how splendid are these summer days! The sun shines upon us and warms our soul. The days are gloriously long inviting us out to play. We are emptied of worry and filled with optimism. The adventurous romp through childhood calls to us once again; reminds us of the daring one that challenged themselves to explore the magical land of make believe. So focused in the moment, children are free. There is bliss in presence.
As adults in a rapidly changing world that portends much without giving us many details, we may want to proceed with caution when it may serve us better to boldly forge new paths to reach our goals. Summon forth the inner child and risk a little, let the imagination run wild and overcome our fears all in one positive step toward eliminating centuries old conditioning.
“Hold the hand of the child that lives in your soul. For this child, nothing is impossible.”
If we think back to those summer days that stretched on outside of time a key component for some of us was the freedom to do just as we pleased. Our hearts were filled with joy due to an endless fulfillment of our nature. As adults we have a responsibility to our self to regain that freedom. Freedom is our inherent nature as we unravel our selves from the complexities of conditioning.
“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level. It's got to happen inside first.”
‘To be what we truly are’ is a task we work on continually. Slowly we divest our selves of beliefs that are inherited that are a limitation to authentic expression. Authentic expression releases creative forces that allow us to access strength and confidence. These relate to a healthy ego association. Once we have such a relationship with the ego we naturally exist without it dictating to us. We are free to be.
This New Moon in early Leo, (2 degrees 08 min.) ruled by the sun, is a wake up call. It’s showtime! Or, time for all of us to show up, not so much as we have been but with a greater sense of the self less occupied with our individual desires. When we are clear, without resistance what we want shows up quite magically. We therefore, have opportunity to show up on a different level. We drift hand in hand with unified purpose. We go with the flow, all rivers eventually join the sea. We want only that which benefits this movement.
That is the essence of this New Moon in Leo as it is aspected by all the outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). The role of the outer planets is collective, moving all of us in a similar manner. Leo is traditionally the home of the ego. If we have been moving toward healthy expression of the ego i.e. less self-centered, more Self aware, we easily align with this flow/rhythm. It is our ‘spiritual’ intent.
“The ego seeks to divide and separate. Spirit seeks to unify and heal.”
The saying, ‘not my will but thy will’ is particularly poignant now. Thy will implies co-operation that during this dark phase of the moon will illuminate the path of least resistance.
The path of least resistance lies deep within each of us. It is based on a knowing that resistance perpetuates discomfort. Rather, maintaining ‘a position’ of perpetual flow, ease of being, is peace and harmony and stillness that precedes all external occurrences.
As mentioned the outer planets beginning with Saturn aspect the Sun/Moon in Leo. Saturn occupies ground between the personal and the collective. It encourages release of old conditioning. In the New Moon chart, Saturn conjuncts Neptune at 1 deg. and 2 deg. Aries and is trine to (120 aspect of ease) Sun/Moon. Aries and Leo are fire signs so we know that action in these days, will encourage release of old and experiences of a deeper spiritual nature (Neptune). Neptune can also create confusion as the planet that rules the last sign, Pisces involves territory that is quite unfamiliar to us. How to proceed?
(Action during a New Moon may be quiet and covert the results of which we see during the next Full Moon August 9th)
“These outer planets, including Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, go beyond the personal realm represented by the inner planets, diving into collective energies and generational shifts. They hold sway over long-term trends, societal changes, and deep-seated desires.”
Uranus, the planet of change, revolution for evolution is at 0 degrees Gemini and sextiles (60 deg. aspect) the Sun/Moon. With this aspect there is ‘light pressure’. We may feel gently but firmly nudged toward ‘letting go’, something like a mother urging her child on at the first day of school. “I’m being kind but you will go!”
Last is Pluto at 2 degrees Aquarius in opposition to Sun/Moon (180 deg. aspect). Elimination for transformation. In opposition there is reflection. We see the advantage of clarity shining on from places all around us while it casts light upon that within our self that is not that.
The energies may feel quite intense during these New Moon days. There is not a direction from which we can expect relief. All pathways demand something new of us. Even Mars at 21 degrees Virgo squares (90 deg. aspect of confrontation) Venus at 22 degrees Gemini. Mars in Virgo can be picky. Venus in Gemini can tend toward the superficial. This tendency will be discouraged.
All of this may not sound like play but it works to reveal those deeper parts of our selves waiting for us to return to play; to focus not on the details but the big picture—so simple and yet feels like a big stretch. Stretching actually feels so good!
“If we knew our selves as living in a ghost world of unceasing change, we wouldn’t take our selves and the things that happen to us quite so seriously.”
